Hello! I am Carla Morrow, a freelance traditional artist living in new mexico. Born in 1981 I have always had a deep seated love of fantasy and all things fantastical. I don't remember when I was bitten by the art bug, neither do I remember a time when art and wanting to be an artist was not part of my every day life. Once out of highschool I decided to pursue further artistic education via self teaching. I had private lessons from other full time professional artists, collected and read art books, and have taken online self study courses. Through these routes I have learned perseverance and self discipline, as well as the technicalities of how to create art. Every day I make the effort to learn something about the techniques of creation.
I have painting professionally since 2005, and have worked in many various traditional medias. Since 2009 I have focused exclusively on watercolor and colored pencil. I am also fluent in graphite pencil and art marker.
In 2008 I began to paint baby dragons engaged in silly behaviours, and called them "Little Wings Dragons™". It started with one single little dragon eating a fairy, and has since grown to an entire world where dragonlings frolic in fairyland. It is currently inhabited solely by dragons, but there are plans to include several other fantasy creatures in the near future. The "Little Wings Dragons™" have gone through a few different changes in media over the past few years. The line work is now created digitally, then they are printed directly on watercolor paper and finished in watercolor. I enjoy this method as I get the clean linework for an illustrative look, but I can work the color using techniques that are truly unique to watercolor.
